Named from the Italian "a ventura" or "by chance". This is likely to be due to the accidental discovery of aventurine glass or goldstone in the 18th Century in Venice. The man-made glass resembled the natural material and the name duly transferred to the mineral.
Most blue aventurine comes from India, particularly in the areas of Mysore and Chennai where there are many skilled workers of this pretty stone.
Size: 1.5 inches across
